The sentence
According to Cambridge Advanced Dictionary- sentence is ‘a group of words, usually containing a verb, which expresses a thought in the form of a statement, question, instruction or exclamation and starts with a capital letter when written.’
Sentence বলতে এমন কিছু word এর সমষ্টি বুঝায় যার মধ্যে একটি finite verb অর্থাৎ tense যুক্ত verb থাকে। তাই grammar এর বিবেচনায় Sentence হলো (Subject) + Finite verb + (——-). আর meaning এর বিবেচনায় Sentence একটি বক্তব্য। যেমনঃ
1. We work for earning. 2. They are playing.
sentence এর বৈশিষ্ট্যঃ i. এক বা একাধিক word দ্বারা sentence গঠিত হয়।
ii. sentence এ একটি (Subject) + Finite verb থাকে।
iii. sentence এ একটি বক্তব্য থাকে ।
iv. sentence সমাপ্ত হয়ঃ
. (full stop) , ? (note of interrogation) বা ! (note of exclamation) চিহ্ন দ্বারা
. (full stop): চিহ্ন দ্বারা সমাপ্ত হয়ঃ
i. assertive- I am alright.
ii. imperative- Please, wait. and
iii. optative-May you be happy.
? (note of interrogation) চিহ্ন দ্বারা সমাপ্ত হয়ঃ
interrogative sentence- How are you?
!(note of exclamation) চিহ্ন দ্বারা
exclamatory sentence-How nice the day is!
Types of Sentence:
English Sentence কে দুইভাবে ভাগ করা যায়। যথাঃ
i. অর্থ অনুসারে
ii. গঠন অনুসারে
অর্থ অনুসারে English sentence ৫ প্রকার। যথাঃ 1. Assertive sentence 2. Interrogative sentence 3. Imperative sentence 4. Exclamatory sentence 5. Optative sentence
গঠন অনুসারে English sentence ৩ প্রকার। যথাঃ
এই তিনটি sentence এর মধ্যে পার্থক্যের মূল বিষয় হলো Clause । তাই simple, complex and compound sentence ভালোভাবে শিখতে হলে clause শেখা প্রয়োজন।
