Functions of prepositions

      

The preposition and its object form a prepositional phrase.(preposition + noun)

অর্থাৎ, preposition এবং তার object মিলে prepositional phrase গঠন করে। Example:  in the garden, at noon, with long hair.

i. A prepositional phrase functions as an adjective (modifies nouns)

অর্থাৎ, prepositional phrase adjective এর মতো nounকে modify করে। Example: The boy in the field is Shakil.

ii. A prepositional phrase functions as an adverbial (modifies verbs, adjectives etc.)

অর্থাৎ, prepositional phrase adverb এর মতো verbs, adjectives etc কে modify করে।

Example: i. The boy is working in the field. (‘in the field’ modifies the verb)                      ii. Mr Alim is rich at present. (‘at present’ modifies the verb)
