Definition of preposition

 Definition of preposition:

A preposition is a word like in, on, to, from, with, without etc. It indicates relationships between nouns, pronouns and other words in a sentence.

অর্থাৎ, Preposition হলো in, on, to, from, with, without এর মতো  word বা শব্দ।

Preposition sentence এ nouns, pronouns and other words মধ্যে relationships বা সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করে।

আরও বলা যায়-

In grammar, preposition is a word which is used before a noun, a noun phrase or a pronoun, connecting it to another word.

অর্থাৎ, Preposition হলো এমন word যা কোন  noun, noun phrase বা pronoun এর আগে বসে এবং এদের সাথে অন্যান্য word এর সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করে । যেমনঃ

We live in Bangladesh.

এই sentence এ in একটি preposition কারণ noun ‘Bangladesh’ এর আগে বসে in তার আগের শব্দ ‘live’ এর সাথে সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করেছে ।

preposition এর আগে verb বা adjective অথবা noun থাকে আর পরে noun, noun phrase বা pronoun থাকে । যেমনঃ

Jewel works in a hospital. (works-verb, in-preposition, a hospital-noun phrase)

He is good at surgery. (good-adj, at-preposition,  surgery-noun)

I have no relation with him.( relation- noun, with-prep, him-pronoun)

NB: Pronouns আসলে nounই  কারণ তারা noun কেই replace করে।

preposition অনেক সময় sentence এর শুরুতে বসে তখন এদের সামনে কিছু থাকে না। যেমনঃ

In our country, most people live in villages. word

এক কথায় বলা যায়, preposition ০ VAN এর পরে বসে।
