Understanding Story

Definition of Story:

1.1. Story is ‘an account of imaginary or real people and events told for entertainment.’ "an adventure story"

2. 2. Story is ‘an account of past events in someone's life or in the development of something.’ - Oxford Languages

 Elements of story:

The key elements of a story are plot, setting, characters, point of view, conflict, and theme, which together create the backbone of a narrative. These elements interact and shape each other, contributing to the overall story's impact.

Here's a more detailed look at each element:

1. Plot:

The sequence of events in a story, including exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.

 2. Setting:

The time and place where the story unfolds, which can include geographical location, historical period, and social conditions.

3. Characters:

The people or figures in the story, including the protagonist (main character) and the antagonist (character who opposes the protagonist).

4. Point of View:

The perspective from which the story is told, such as first-person (using "I") or third-person (using "he," "she," "they").

5. Conflict:

The struggle or problem that the protagonist faces, which can be internal (within the character) or external (with another person or force).

6. Theme:

The underlying message or idea that the story explores, often relating to human nature, society, or life in general.

In addition to these core elements, other aspects like style, tone, and archetypes can also contribute to a story's impact.
