Extension

 এই অংশটি sentence এর বাধ্যতামুলক constituent নয়। Extension দ্বারা অতিরিক্ত তথ্য প্রদান করা হয়।

তাই কোন sentence এ এটি নাও থাকতে পারে। আবার কোন sentence এ এটি একাধিক বারও থাকতে পারে। যেমন : (a) Zinnia loves a large family.  (b) He wrote a letter to his friend yesterday.

এই অংশটি সব সময় sentence এর শেষে থাকে এমন কোন কথা নয়। এটি শুরুতে বা মাঝেও থাকতে পারে। যেমনঃ (a) A few days ago  I saw a snake. (b) The man who came here was Mr. Amin.

৬ ধরণের Word unit Extension  হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে । যথাঃ 

i. Root Adverbs: Munna came here yesterday.                                                 ii. ly adverbs : Minu learns her lessons regularly.                       iii. Infinitive: He came here to meet me.          iv. Present participle: He came here walking.                                v. Preposition + noun/gerund:He came here for some money.                                     Vi: Conjunction + clause: When I was ten years old, I went to Dhaka with my father.
