Prepositional phrase

 Definition: A prepositional phrase is a group of words that is formed with a preposition and its object (noun, pronoun, gerund etc.) and works as an adjective or adverb in the sentence.

Example: I work in a farm.

Formation: Preposition + noun/ pronoun/gerund/nominal adjective – She studies in the arts group.

Function: A prepositional phrase works as:

An adjective to post modify nouns – The girl in red skirt is Mitu.

An adverb to pre modify or post modify verbs – They came at the right time.                                            In the evening, nocturnal animals begin to come out.

In short, a prepositional phrase can be the adjective or adverb of the sentence.
