Subject

 Subject হচ্ছে এমন word / phrase / clause যার সম্পর্কে তথ্য উপস্থাপন করে sentence রচিত হয়।

যেমনঃ (a) Bangladesh is beautiful. (word) (b) The people of our country are poor.(Phrase)                                                        (c) That our country is beautiful is known to all.(Clause)

৬ ধরণের Word unit Subject হতে পারে । যথাঃ 1. Noun – Mamun is my friend.                NB: noun এর আগে determiner adj modifier থাকতে পারে। যেমনঃ An old man came here.

2. Pronoun – He is a student.

3. Gerund – Walking is good for health. NB: gerund এর পরে VR থাকতে পারে। যেমনঃ Walking in the morning is good for health.

4. Infinitive – To swim is interesting. NB: infinitive এর পরে VR থাকতে পারে। To swim in the river is interesting.

5. The + adj – The poor are unhappy.

6. Noun clause – What happened is clear to me.

আবার কাজের বিবেচনায় subject দুই প্রকার । যথাঃ

A. Agent subject: এই subject sentence এর verbটির doer। অর্থাৎ, sentence এ যে verb থাকে Agent subject তা সম্পাদন করে। যেমনঃ Boys play foot ball. এই sentence এর Boys একটি Agent subject । কারণ Boys ‘play’ কাজটি করে ৷

B. Non-agent subject: Non – agent subject sentence এর verb এর doer না |

sentence এ যে verb থাকে Non – agent subject তা সম্পাদন করে না বা করতে পারেনা । যেমনঃ Football is played by boys. এই sentence এ Football ‘play’ কাজটি করেনা বা করতে পারেনা । তাই এটি একটি Non-agent subject |
