Special rules of tense

 Some exceptions: কয়েকটি ক্ষেত্রে verb সাধারণ tense অনুসারে হয়না । এ সব ক্ষেত্রে প্রযোজ্য নিয়মগুলী দেখানো হলো ।

If:

1. If + present+ present/future: i. If she tries, she can do it herself. ii. If you want, I will help you.

2. If + past1 + conditional past: If you came, I would go with you.

3. If+ past3+ conditional past3: If you had come, I would have gone with you.

NB: উপরোক্ত if clause গুলী if ছাড়াও লেখা যায়।

সেক্ষেত্রে auxiliary verb subject এর আগে ব্যবহৃত হয় এবং past1 এ ‘be’ verb ‘were’ হয়। were I a bird, I would fly to Medina.

Modals + verb1: We can/should/must/had to (stop) smoking.

As though/as if:

1. present1 + as though/as if + subject + v2/were + Example: She speaks as if she knew everything/she were right.

2. As though/as if: past1 + as though/as if + subject + had + v3 +– Example: He spoke as though I had done it.

Since:

1. Present + since + past1: Example: Many years have passed since he last came.

2. Past1 + since + past3: Example: Many years passed since he had last come.

Would you mind + v +ing: Example: Would you mind opening the window?
