Main clause

 Main Clause আরও দুটি নামে পরিচিত (i) Principal Clause I (ii) Independent Clause

আর এ রুপ নাম থেকেই বোঝা যায় যে, এ Clause এর meaning স্বাধীন ও স্বনির্ভর। যেমনঃ As it is raining, we should not go out right now. 

Bold লেখা Clause টির অর্থ স্বাধীন। কারণ As it is raining এই Clause টি না থাকলেও ‘we should not go out right now.’ এই Clause টির একটি পূর্ণ এবং স্বাধীন অর্থ আছে। তাই এটি একটি Main Clause

অন্যদিকে As it is raining Clause টির একটি পূর্ণ এবং স্বাধীন অর্থ নেই। কারণ ‘we should not go out right now.’ Clause টি না থাকলে এর কোন অর্থ বা লেখার প্রয়োজন কোনটাই থাকেনা।

Main clause এর সামনে Clause marker থাকেনা। তাই Simple sentence মানেই একটি Main clause। আর এর কোন classification নেই।

Examples: i. When you go out, you should dress well.

ii. Mandela never lost his resolve to fight for his people’s emancipation.

iii. He was determined to bring down apartheid while avoiding a civil war.

iv. His prestige and charisma helped him win the support of the world.

v. We should support the ideal of Mandela.
