Reflexive pronoun

 When myself, yourself, ourselves, itself are used as the objects of verbs, they are called reflexive pronoun.

অর্থাৎ, myself, yourself, ourselves, itself ইত্যাদি যখন কোন verb এর object হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়, তখন এদেরকে reflexive pronouns বলে।

যদি verb এরsubject এবং object একই ব্যক্তি হয়, তবে reflexive pronoun ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমনঃ

1. I enjoyed myself.

2. He hurt himself.

3. She praised herself.

4. They patted themselves on the back.

A reflexive pronoun can be used after a preposition.

He was beside himself with rage.

I did it all by myself.

Reflexive pronouns as Intensive pronouns

When words like myself, yourself, himself, itself etc., are used for the sake of emphasis they are called emphatic pronouns.

অর্থাৎ, myself, yourself, ourselves, itself ইত্যাদি যখন emphasis বা জোর প্রকাশের জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়, তখন এদেরকে emphatic pronouns বলে। যেমনঃ

I myself wrote this poem.
They themselves admitted it.
The announcement was made by the Principal himself.

Emphatic pronouns are usually placed immediately after the noun or pronoun which they emphasize.

Sometimes, they follow at a distance.

He said so himself. OR He himself said so.
