Proper, collective and material nouns as common nouns

 

Proper nouns as common nouns:

Proper nouns become common nouns if they are compared.

Construction : Determiner + Proper noun

Examples :Nazrul is the Byron of Bangladesh.

Dhaka university is called the Oxford of the East.

Munir Chowdhury is our Shakespeare.

Collective nouns as common nouns:

Collective nouns become common nouns if nationality words are added before them.

Construcion : (Determiner) + nationality + Collective noun

Examples :The Bangladesh cricket team is very strong now.

A British gang attacked a Spanish helicopter.

The American army occupied Afghanistan.

Material nouns as common nouns:

Material nouns become common nouns if  they express whole or totality.

Construction :  The + Material noun + of + noun

Examples : 1. The water of the pond is dirty.

2. The gold of the ring is pure.

3. The cotton of the dress is soft.
