Collective noun

 Collective noun means a noun which describes a group of things or people as a unit

‘Family’ and ‘flock’ are examples of collective nouns.

অর্থাৎ, Collective noun হচ্ছে কোন বস্তু বা ব্যক্তিবর্গের সামষ্টিক নাম।

তাই আমরা বলতে পারি যে, কয়েকটি বস্তু বা ব্যক্তি মিলে একটি সমষ্টি তৈরী হলে তার যে নাম হয়, সে নামই Collective noun । যেমনঃ

কিছু student মিলে একটি class তৈরী হয়।

Collective noun এর কয়েকটি উদাহরণ হলো-

team, army, bunch, heard, board, committee

Collective noun এর সদস্যদের ও ভিন্ন ভিন্ন নাম থাকতে পারে এবং ঐ সকল নাম Proper noun হবে। যেমনঃ

একটা team এর সদস্যদের আলাদা নাম থাকে।

ঐ নামগুলী Collective noun

আবার Common noun এর সাথে Collective noun এর পার্থক্য শুধুমাত্র পরিধি।

কারণ Common noun দ্বারা বুঝায় সমস্ত কিন্তু Collective noun দ্বারা বুঝায় কয়েকটি বা কিছু।
